Bookends Farm is a small lesson and training facility utilizing positive reinforcement methods for training both horses and riders/handlers. New in 2012, we also have a Dog Chapter! Located between Wells River and St. Johnsbury, Vermont, I invite clients to work here or I will travel to you. For special offerings, see the Programs page.
I am certified by the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training & Behavior as a KPA CTP. I am also a certified Level 2 TAG teacher. These certifications have involved extensive education, practice and testing. The skills I gained taught me to better understand how both animals and people learn best so that I can be an effective trainer to both.
The KPA program “is for the highly motivated trainer with specific goals for improving knowledge, skills, and career prospects.” ”TAGteach is a revolutionary science-based technology that enables educators and coaches to teach efficiently and helps students learn effectively…The focused, positive nature of this method yields immediate and stunning results that are clearly evident to teachers, students and parents.”
Combined with my many years of working with students, horses and dogs, I feel I offer a unique opportunity for my clients to make long lasting changes in their handling, riding and training. I aim to help the client be more able and comfortable in their own problem solving while pursuing their goals, whether those goals are for a simple home-based handling or more adventurous pursuits of competition.
Horses and ponies- Lessons are small (1-3 students) and tailored to the individual needs of adults and/or children. Learning about horses and their care is included in every lesson. Training services focus on helping owners with their horses.
